HOW DO I USE DDNS TO POINT TO MY DVR?
DDNS (dynamic domain name system) allows you to create a host name that will
always point to an IP address you specify. This is useful because now you
do not have to remember the IP address, but instead you simply just have to
remember the hostname. This service is provided by www.dyndns.org. Go
there to set up an account. Once you have set up an account, you can
create up to 5 hosts that can be pointed to by using DDNS for free. Go to
the website to get more information. Now when you want to connect to that
IP address, simply type in the hostname in the address box of internet browser.
For this to work, you must make sure that if the IP address of the device
that the hostname points to changes, you must update the IP address of the
hostname in your account at www.dyndns.org. You can either manually do
this, or the website also has some client software that you can download that
will make periodic checks to make sure that the IP address is still correct, and
will change the IP address if necessary.
